Mission:Adventure Update
It's been a long, long time since I've posted on here. Sorry 'bout that. I thought I'd return to our blogosphere by giving you an update on how it's going with Mission:Adventure. It may get a little random but I'm just going to follow the flow of my thoughts as they come to me...
For those of you who were praying for approval for the schools, thanks. Tuesday morning the school district sent me contract agreements for me to sign and send money for, so it looks like the last of the major hurdles have been overcome. There are lots of little hurdles left though.
Barry and I finally looked at how we'll do the basic stage and bus set-up. I guess a lot of you might not know that the choice of bus has changed. The Zoe bus has lots of great potential, but I refused to use it with the existing paint job. I thought we could paint it, but then reality kicked in and I called that off. It ended up making the most sense to use the short bus that the North Rutland route was using last year. The back two rows of seats will be removed to make room for storage and my dad is installing a trailer hitch so that a little trailer can be pulled to carry the staging.
It is true that we are making do with what we already have, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. First of all it keeps the focus on people, which should always be the strongest part of a ministry (apart from God's work of his Spirit...which is usually done through those people!). Plus, if this is a successful venture this first summer, it will become a lot easier next year to get more support from the church (ie. money and resources) and its people--like ones who'd like to head up a team to retrofit a bus! So here's my motto for this year: We're making do, but we're going to do it well!
The promotional material has been printed and it was handed out in Sunday School last Sunday. The next stage is visiting the kids on our bus routes and giving them the details. Next we'll be encouraging the people in the congregation to pick up the flyers and hand them out to their neighbours. Also, we might start putting up posters for the kick-off party in public places. Wednesday night the youth missions team will be doing a mass hand-out in the neighbourhoods.
That's it for now. The next M:A update will include specific dates and details so that you can begin to envision what this will all look like.
By the way, I'd like to use this blog over the summer to help keep Mission:Adventure people in the loop. This blog was always meant to cover more than just the bus ministry, but M:A is the first new kids' outreach since Children's Outreach became it's own thing. So let me know if this is a concern for you.
God bless you guys! You are and always will be the strength of this ministry! How else would the kids ever come to first experience the love of Jesus?!
