Supper with Pastor Rick

I had the privilege of being invited to the Luksts for a BBQ with Rick Fountain and his wife. It was a good time of food and fellowship, and I was encouraged through the conversations. Something that I was reminded of was that the strength of effective ministry will always be in the people, rather than in resources. I know I said it before but it doesn't hurt to be reminded again, in the midst of wireless mics cutting out, stage sections seemingly getting heavier and heavier, backdrops falling over, etc. Sure we're making do with limited resources, but that's something Metro has done for years and years, and that hasn't stopped them from reaching 1000s and 1000s of kids. I've seen their Sidewalk Sunday School trucks--the set-up is far from perfect. And it's even true of their giant Sunday School in Brooklyn. The room is too small, sight lines aren't great, the carpet on the stage is outdated, the sound booth is in another room...I could go on. But they have PEOPLE--people that love God, people that care about the kids, people that are dedicated and hard-working, people that want to stand in the gap.

We have those kinds of people too--they are you! So don't be distracted by the things (or lack thereof); be encouraged by the people that God has chosen to be the strength of this ministry.
