Prayer and Fasting II

Thank-you to those of you who joined us in praying and fasting yesterday. There are a few things to say about praying and fasting. Even though you may not feel anything significantly positive throughout or as a result of the experience, you shouldn't be discouraged. The point isn't to chase warm and fuzzies, but to go to war for the souls of the kids we want to reach. You just have to trust that things really do happen in the spiritual realm. However, since you are going to war, the enemy is obviously interested in fighting back, and the way to get back at you is through your mind:thoughts of discouragement, anger, irritation, temptation to sin--the list is endless. So when you feel those things, you need to recognize them for what they are and don't give them a foothold in your mind.

I'm still not sure I know exactly what's so important about fasting, but I do know that every time I felt hungry I was reminded that I need to be praying. And depending on God to get me through the day without food helped me to practice that attitude of dependence on him that I should always have. "Man does not live on bread alone..."

Now for the announcement you've all been waiting for: we are going to fast and pray again next Thursday. It's a great way to lead into our training meeting at 6:30. Here's one for the math geeks: The success of Mission:Adventure is directly proportional to our dependence on God.

this was actually the first time i have ever fasted because when i was younger i could not go without eating and it was quite interesting to see how much you actually think about praying more especially when you get hungry because you know that the reason you are hungry is because you are doing it for God and it really makes it easier to go without food when its for a higher cause and not just because someone else is doing it.
